Ok, I still don't have some fun quip about life, or what this blog is about to put here. Someday - perhaps tomorrow perhaps two years from tomorrow - I will figure it out. Until then, see my randomness below.

I just wanna live

For the people who read my blog regularly I would like to apologize to both of you. My absence was not intentional, I have simply been out living my life and what a week plus it was.

First I want to talk about the people I met from San Diego. They were five of the nicest, sincerest, coolest people I have ever met in my life. They were in town doing research for "The Laramie Project." After only moments with them I felt like I knew them for years and wanted to spend all the time I could with them. As a result I spent one evening drinking and partying like rockstars with them and went to dinner with them the next night. I don't know how many people know what it is like to know someone for minutes and feel like you have known them for years. It was a magical experience and I highly recommend everyone experience it once.

The second experience I want to immortalize is my oral arguments for my appellate advocacy class. This was another great feeling. I prepared all week. I spent the whole day putting my files together, finalizing my written copy, and worried about what questions I was going to be asked. I don't remember being so nervous speaking in front of anyone since my FIRST debate. I was speaking in front of the local district judge, an adjunct faculty in international law, and a third year student. At the end I was told I spoke a bit too fast (well, I was a debater) but that there was no question I knew the material and that I was good at answering tough questions. The district court judge mentioned that he has set with the state supreme court on occasion and was more impressed with the four of us than with some practicing attorneys in the state. I haven't felt that kind of high since it was announced that I was a gold medalist at Phi Rho Pi Nationals. I experienced my whole debate career in an hour and a half. It was a heck of a rush, and I can't wait to do it again.

AWESTRUCK

Sometimes, setting in class as a 1L, I am amazed by my present circumstances. Today was such a day. During our discussion of adverse possession we were discussing continuity of ownership and it hit me. I am actually going to use this some day. I am going to talk like this. I am going to engage in these discussions. I am going to do something productive with this knowledge. This is a feeling I have not previously had in my educational endeavors. Perhaps this is because I majored in history for my undergrad. I, however, assume a lot of people have felt the same. How many degrees really prepare you for work in ANY field? My friends with Psychology, History, English, and most with “hard” science degrees as well all have to get another degree (concurrently in education or a graduate degree) before they can actually use their education directly in their field. For example: to write on the conquests of Alexander the Great or the Works of Shakespeare you need a PHD to be considered credible. To use my degree I have had to go on as a candidate for JD in 2007. I am not trying to say that undergrad degrees are worthless, or that the learning is meaningless. I had to have one to be here. I DO hope that my readers all get to enjoy this feeling I have now. I can’t tell you what it feels like, you will know when you experience it.

For your enjoyment

I am ordering Margaret Cho Tickets for those who have told me they are interested in the trip.

So.. in the mean time please consider the following

So I am taking a relationship compatability test for the heck of it – you are going to love this question

You are having sex with a new partner, s/he pulls out a new toy, your reaction is?

a) Discust – you don’t want to be with someone who brings perverted accessories into lovemaking
b) Sheer Panic – what IS this thing?
c) Nervous Discomfort – you are not comfortable with using sex toys.
d) Excitement – this person is right up your alley.
e) Intrigued Curriosity – you’d like to know more.
f) Surprise – there is a sex toy you don’t know about?

How many of you thought D was going to be your answer before you got to F?

Next question

Would you give the mystery toy a go?

Birthdays

So... I know I am not the only one with a MARCH BIRTHDAY, nor am I even the only one with a BIRTHDAY near the end of the month. Thus I offer the following. Margaret Cho will be in Denver at the Buell Theatre on March 31st (someone's actual Birthday). That is the Thursday following the Tuesday on which the skies will once again erupt into fire in celebration of the joyous day of my birth. Any member of the flock whom would like to attend (the Margaret Cho part) please let me know by this Wednesday (March 9th). Those of us with MARCH BIRTHDAYS who are interested should make a sidehanded comment to this post on their blogs. I will buy tickets ($45 each) for all who can pay me back. The only presents I am requesting are your presence. Dinner is on you, for yourself, to be worked out once I know if this is a go for sure. All plans still of-coarse hinge upon ticket availability and tickets will be doled out on a first come first serve basis.

For those with questions - Jim, Drew, Mandy, RJ, and I all have more details. The important part is the March 9th notification so I can try to get tickets for us as a group.

7-1-1 Fashion Police

[Dispatch]: 711 emergency what is your complaint?
[Me]: Hello? Fashion police? I’d like to report a crime. You need to send in the swat team.
[Dispatch]: A swat team, do we have multiple offenders?
[Me]: Yes – there is an individual at the front of the room wearing a yellow-green, light-yellow, and grass-green plaid suit jacket with a yellow dress shirt and a brown tie. The tie is tied too short so that the knot is the size of his head and the bottom reaches only his belly. His pants appear to be a grey-brown. NONE OF IT MATCHES!
[Dispatch]: Is there a belt?
[Me]: Yes, although it is just a cheap Wal-Mart brown.
[Dispatch]: How about skin and hair tones?
[Me]: White with a tinge of orange and salt and pepper. I am prepared to admit that the orange may be a result of the shirt’s mismatching.
[Dispatch]: (into the radio) All available units please proceed with caution be advised we may have a shooter.
[Me]: Wait, there’s more.
[Dispatch]: Please continue.
[Me]: We also have a 540 – 2 week old beard that won’t grow in and a Fred02- shirt that doesn’t cover the belly worn in public.
[Dispatch]: Have you worked in the trenches?
[Me]: No mam, I am just a gay man who went through the system to learn how to match blacks.
[Dispatch]: Thanks for your call, we’ll be sending up the super friends signal.
